Tippecanoe County Council on Aging, Inc. is celebrating thirty-five (35) years of service to older Hoosiers in July 2008.

  • The Council opened its doors as an advocate for older adults in July 1973.
  • In 1974, it offered programs to the community with the development of the Senior Center in downtown Lafayette and moved to its current location at Jenks Rest in Columbian Park in 1991.
  • In 1975, TCCA opened the first congregate meal site in the county and began its health screening services.
  • Care-A-Van, which offers specialized transportation for seniors and/or disabled citizens, got on the road in 1979.
  • We became a United Way agency in 1983 (25 years ago!).
  • The Senior Housing Assistance Repair Program (SHARP), which offers needed home repairs for senior homeowners, started in 1996.
  •  In 1990, the Cooperative Transportation Program (CTP) was created by United Way to provide transportation to clients of United Way agencies through the use of Care-A-Van vehicles and drivers.

Over the years, our vision has remained the same; for older adults to lead healthy, productive lives and have meaningful involvement in a community that views aging as positive, natural and purposeful.  This healthy lifestyle encourages the expansion of interests and activities and maintenance of relationships as valuable keys to fulfillment.
